Airbrush Tattoo FAQs
Everything you need to know...
What is an Airbrush Tattoo?
A real tattoo is in principle irreversible because the ink is injected under the skin. Airbrush Tattoos take the form of a non-permanent image on the skin which can closely resemble a real tattoo if that's what you are looking for - you might not want realistic however, you might just want fun! The Tattoos are applied to the skin using an airbrush, special FX (for faces) or Ink (for body art) cosmetic grade body paint, and oftentimes stencils; although we hand paint if the tattoo design asks for it. Airbrush Tattoos can easily be removed from the skin at any time yet will our TTT Ink will last between 3-14 days or longer with the correct care. Take a look at our Gallery to see just some of the Tattoos we have created!
Are Temporary Airbrush Tattooe safe?
YES!! The paint used is an alcohol-based body paint. It is UK/EU-approved and contains only cosmetic-grade materials. Alcohol-based makeup has been used for decades for special effects in movies for its durability, we are simply re-purposing it for its entertainment value!
What ages are Airbrush Tattoos suitable for?
Airbrush tattoos are suitable for ages 4 yrs +
How Are Airbrush Tattoos Applied Safely?
Airbrush tattoos are applied using an airbrush gun that converts the ink into fine particles and sprays it using compressed air. An an airbrush is precise tool and uses lower air pressure. The artist will use your desired stencil and place it in the chosen area. Make sure that your skin is healthy and doesn’t have any damage or irritation before getting a temporary tattoo. The artist will usually clean the area with alcohol before airbrushing the skin. Once the stencil is placed, the airbrush is used to spray ink and create the image. When the tattoo design is complete, powders are often applied to seal the design on the skin.
Wondering how long Temporary Airbrush Tattoos last?
You can expect Temporary Airbrush Tattoos to last anywhere between 3-14 days, this depends on the location of the tattoo and aftercare. With good aftercare, the tattoo can last for 2 weeks.
How do I take care of a Temporary Airbrush Tattoo?
If you want your Temporary Airbrush Tattoo to last longer, we recommend putting baby powder on your tattoo several times a day and avoiding scrubbing it while bathing or showering. Chlorine in pools/spas can degrade it if it is exposed for long periods. EXCESSIVE sweating can also wear the tattoo down. Areas, where there is sweat, oil or friction (like clothing or shoes), can also wear down the tattoo quicker. The areas of the body that have the driest skin will allow the tattoo to last longer.
How to remove Airbrush Tattoos from the skin?
Temporary airbrush tattoos have the simplest removal process.
For INK (anything applied to the BOdy): Don’t rub with water and soap. Airbrush tattoos are easily removed when rubbed with 70% isopropanol (alcohol), baby oil, coconut oil, olive oil - anything oil or cream based; there is no need to apply intense pressure. Avoid irritation and friction burns by soaking a cotton pad with liquid or the oil-based remover and gently rubbing it onto the tattoo.
For FX(anything applied to the face): Again, don't rub but you can use soap and water. Airbrush Face Paints are easily removed with soap and water, a face cleanser, baby oil, coconut oil, olive oil - anything oil or cream based that is face safe ; there is no need to apply intense pressure, use gentle circular motions. Avoid irritation by taking your time and softly removing TTT FX make-up.
Can you get a Reaction From Airbrush Tattoos?
As skin types vary from person to person, there is a chance of having an allergic reaction to an ingredient in the paint or powders. Although all colours have to be approved by safety boards, there may be individual ingredients that some people have a sensitivity or allergy to. Please feel free to ask about the products we use. Generally, two types of airbrush paints are commonly used for airbrush tattoos. These include water-based paints and alcohol-based paints. Both these types of colours have different characteristics and longevity, Make sure you understand which ink you’re using and ensure if it’s safe to use for yourself.

Tattoos should not be applied to sensitive areas of the skin and if the child does have sensitive skin or allergies, we can offer a test patch on the child’s skin by spraying an airbrush tattoo on an inconspicuous area of the skin. The TTT artist will always ask parents if their child has any known allergies. Also consider FX Airbrush Face Paining - see our TTINK for all options for children
Are there any risks at all?
NO! There are no dangers associated with airbrush tattoos. As said, patch tests area available. In 20 years and thousands and thousands of Airbrush Tattoo applied, we have never had a single case where our body art has cause harm.
Is Scarring a Possibility With Airbrush Tattooing?
Don’t worry, there is no risk. Nothing in the ink or application method could potentially lead to scarring. Airbrush tattoos do not involve penetrating the skin, so it’s almost for a scar to form. We use professional quality inks that are UK approved airbrush body paint. When paint is applied to human skin, it is classed as a cosmetic product in the United Kingdom. As such, it must comply with the UK Cosmetics Regulation (Schedule 34 to the Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019), which mirrors the EU Cosmetic Products Regulation (EC) No 1223/200. All of the TTT Inks andTTT FX body make-up we use are compliant with these UK / EU Regulations.
I've never had an Airbrush Tattoo before, can I get a patch test?
Yes of course you can! As skin types vary from person to person we are happy to patch test to ensure you are not sensitive to an ingredient in the body paint or powders. Although all colours have to be approved and conform to UK Cosmetics Regulations, there may be individual ingredients that some people have a sensitivity to. Please feel free to ask about the products we use; here is a brief overview for you - we use two different types of airbrush body paint, we use TTT FX paint for faces which last until washed off and TTT INK for airbrush tattoos which can last a week and beyond with the correct care, although the length of time they last can be affected by other factors including your skin type. Both types of paints are alcohol based. On our sister site TTTINK, there is information about our traditional face & body art services - using water based paints which can be an option too.
How experienced should the Airbrush Tattoo Artist be?
Since the airbrush tool is non-invasive and only requires compressed air, experience isn't essential. However, skills take time to master in airbrushing and not all airbrush tattoo's are equal. WIth 20 years experience in special effects and airbrush body art, working in film, TV and Theatre, you're in safe hands with The Tattoo Trip.
Are There Crazy Side Effects After Getting an Airbrush Tattoo?
To put it simply, no. There is no reason for any side effects, as the contact period of airbrush tattoo ink is so short. This is a major reason why they’re so popular with children and adults alike. A temporary airbrush tattoo is a short-term experience that will not leave behind anything but fond memories and cool pictures. Once it fades entirely or is appropriately removed, it’s as if it was never there.
Can my Airbrush Tattoo be placed anywhere on my body?
Airbrush Tattoos are safe on all body areas, but some may be less ideal than others we use our TTT INK for body art applications. If you ask for a tattoo close to the eyes, nose, or mouth, there is a chance the TTT Tattoo Artist may refuse your request. We only use TTT FX Ink for faces and this lasts only until it is washed off. The reason we won't use TTT Ink on faces is because ink droplets or fumes may become a potential risk for you if you inhale, and as the face is a sensitive area TTT Inks require a little more pressure to remove - we feel this is too much for the face.
See also our Placement Guide for information regarding placement and where to consider if you aim is for your tattoo to last for the optimal time.
Regarding, cracked, cut, or damaged skin is vulnerable to infections and further irritation. It is best to avoid any areas with skin conditions or injuries.
Please be mindful that requests for Body Art application on private areas including, but not exclusive to genitals of the body may be refused by the TTT Artist. All requests will be considered in advance. Contact Us to discuss.
